Create and Edit Tags

Tags allow you to describe your voters or contacts and find them easily. This article shows you how to manage them.

In this article, you’ll learn how to:

  • Create tags that you can apply to your voters and contacts;

  • Edit one or more existing tags;

  • Merge tags to eliminate duplicates.

1. From your dashboard, click the “Tags” icon in the navigation bar on the left. You will be taken to a list of all the tags in your organization. To create a new one, click on “Create”.

2. In the window that opens, give your tag a name; you can give it an optional description.

3. You must choose which list(s) your tag can be applied to in "Permission". You can choose “Contacts,” “Organizations,” or “Voters.” If you only pick "Contacts", for example, then this tag can only be found in and applied to Contacts.

4. You can assign it to a category, or create a new one for your tag. You can do the same for subcategories to organize your tags. This step is optional.

5. You can further customize your tag. You can change the color of your tag by clicking on the colored area under the “Color” heading.

You'll have access to a selection of colors and their opacity levels. You can also enter a hex code to select a specific color.

You can add an icon to your tag by clicking “Click to change icon.” Choose an icon that suits you from the available options.

6. Finally, you need to review the access permissions for your tag, at the bottom of the window. There are three possible access levels: “View,” “Edit,” and “Owner.”

For “Everyone”—that is, all users in your organization—you can select “View,” for example, so that the tag is only visible but cannot be edited.

By default, you are the owner of the tag you create, but you can grant also access to another person by clicking “Add permission.” Click the arrow next to “User” to select another user. You can make this person an “Owner” like yourself, or grant them edit access by selecting “Edit.” The person will be able to edit your tag, but not delete it, change its access settings, or merge it with another tag, for example.

If you are the owner and want to revoke someone’s access, you can always click the red button to remove the row.

7. You can then click “Save” to finish creating your tag!

8. You will return to your list of tags. You can always edit the tags you have access to by clicking on the tag you want to edit. You can delete it by clicking on the three dots in the far-left column.

9. The final action you can take here is to merge two tags together; for example, if you have two similar tags or two duplicates. To do this, click on “Merge Tag.” By merging two tags, the voters or contacts tagged with the tagwill be placed in a single list.

A window will open.

10. First, select the source tag from the list of available tags.

GOOD TO KNOW! The source tag will be deleted once the merge is complete.

Next, select the target tag; this is the one that will contain both lists of voters or contacts after the merge. All voters who had the source tag will therefore have the target tag.

11. Once you’ve selected the two tags you want to merge, click “Merge.” A confirmation window will pop up warning you that the source tag will be deleted.

12. Once you click OK, you’ll be taken back to your tag list, and only the target tag will remain.

That’s it!

Tags provide an effective way to organize your contacts based on what they have in common. Happy tagging!
